An Oil-in-Ice Research Meeting was held in Trondheim, Norway on January 28-29, 2008. Center Co-Director Amy Merten attended this planning meeting for the proposed Center-funded Oil-in-Ice research.. Dr. Merten along with collaborators from the Foundation for Scientific and Industrial Research at the Norwegian Institute of Technology (SINTEF), University of Alaska Fairbanks, and University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) met to finalize details of the group’s proposed research. This Center-funded research will be an add-on activity to the ongoing Oil-in-ice Joint Industry Program (JIP) coordinated by SINTEF. The goal of this joint research is to provide a basis and methodology for estimating routes and magnitudes of potential environmental exposures and concentrations of oil components migrating through the ice regime as the oil is subjected to a freezing-thawing cycle.
